GOAL: Investigate Patterns of Diversity
- What is the appropriate amount of patient-nurse & nurse-family interaction?
- Touching – is it welcome, expected, forbidden, accepted? What are the nuances?
- Gestures – What signals attention? How much eye contact is okay? Fingers or thumbs?
- Space – come close or stay away?
- Humor & Joking – lots or little? G-rated or saucy? Always serious?
- Topics – medical only? Who generates alternatives? How much “other” stuff?
- Praise and criticism – is public praise okay or ideal? Is criticism from subordinates okay?
- Verbal interaction patterns – can you interrupt? Do you wait for invitations to talk?

IDEAS FOR OBJECTIVES:
Outline Patterns for these elements of Diversity for YOUR groups (race, ethnicity, subculture, family, etc.), then outline them for other groups -constantly adding to the list of “other” groups - by interviewing members of those other groups whenever possible. |
